Alchemilla Mollis P9 - BIO

Some plants stand out for their colour, whilst others for their tranquillity. Alchemilla mollis, commonly known as lady’s mantle, belongs to the latter category. Its wavy leaves are as soft as velvet and possess a remarkable quality: after rain or dew, tiny droplets of water gather on the leaves, glistening like pearls. A small miracle, repeated every morning.

The chartreuse-yellow flower plumes appear from May to July and form a soft, frothy cloud above the foliage. That colour — somewhere between yellow and green — is exactly what brings calm to a colourful border. As foliage in a bouquet, lady’s mantle has therefore been a classic for years: it complements without overpowering.

Where does Alchemilla mollis thrive?

Almost anywhere. The plant thrives in both sun and partial shade, making it one of the most versatile perennials you can choose. It grows to a height of 30 to 50 cm and gradually forms a broad, full clump. Plant it 30 to 40 cm apart, and it will nicely fill the space between larger plants. It works excellently as a ground cover along a path, under shrubs or at the edge of a border.

The bees know where to find it too. The small flowers attract insects and thus contribute in a modest but reliable way to the biodiversity in your garden.

Year after year

Alchemilla mollis is fully hardy and returns naturally every spring. After flowering, you can cut back the flower heads to encourage a second flush of fresh foliage. The plant also self-seeds readily — a trait that makes it feel right at home in a naturalistic garden.
